Get Better Childrens Photos In One Step

Often, when taking photos of children, especially babies, most people fall into the trap of taking the photo from their own adult sized perspective. This may be the way you’re used to viewing the world of children, but it makes for less than a great photograph.

How many photos like the one at left have you seen in your lifetime? It’s unflattering to the kid, has a condescending feel, doesn’t provide much visual interest, and ultimately, doesn’t leave you yearning to an 8×10 print.

The solution is simple: get down on their level. Drop to your knees, crawl on your belly, or lay on your side. Do whatever you have to do to get a shot like you were another baby playing with the subject.

Try it the next time you’re shooting kids. Then compare your results. I guarantee you’ll walk away with better photos.
